Virginia J. Skeirik died peacefully at home at age 92 on July 7, 2019 with her sons at her side. Wife of 53 years to the late Norman Skeirik, mother of three sons, grandmother of nine, she was born Virginia Howell, youngest of eight children in a northeast Pennsylvania farm family. She trained at Charles Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY to become a registered nurse as part of the World War II effort. After finishing her training in 1946, she remained and worked as an RN at Wilson Hospital, where she met and married her husband. They later moved to the Detroit area and raised their family there. During the 1970’s she returned to work as an RN for several years before retiring with her husband in Kennesaw, GA. She was accomplished at needlepoint and cross-stitch, and could expertly sight-read at the piano.
She is survived by her sons: Randall of Clarkdale, AZ, Richard of Kennett Square, PA, and Robert of Knoxville, TN; and nine grandchildren. A private memorial is planned.
