Cleave Jefferson Hammontree, age 86, of Cumming, Georgia, died from cancer on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Cleave was born June 15, 1935, in Talking Rock, Georgia, to the late Paul Hammontree and Alice Reece Hammontree.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Lee Hammontree, Estelene Biddle, Retha Jean Ellis, and Peggy Sue Harmon. He is survived by his children Douglas Hammontree, Vicki Eller, Gina Smith, Patrick Hammontree, Amanda Williams, Cleave Jefferson Hammontree, Jr., Michael Hammontree, Heather White, and Brittany Martin, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Cleave was an army veteran and retired lead aircraft maintenance technician. He often spoke of happy memories of his brief service in the military, including basic training with Elvis Presley and traveling Europe. He was also hard-working, dedicating 42 years to Northwest Airlines before a successful retirement. To know Cleave was to hear his many memories through endless stories of his youth and life, stories we now remember with a smile.
A private, family memorial service will be held at a family residence.
